Q : How to check Train Running Status Online?

A : You can check IRCTC Train Status or the Live Train Status of any Indian Railways Train here at Indian Railways Train Running Status.
This is one of the fastest ways to get latest information and spot your train in real time.
All you need to do is enter the Train Number or Train Name in box above and select the train start date to get the current location of the train.
You can find Train Name or number by just entering first 3 letters / digits and it will show you a list from which you can select the train.
Train Running Status can also be checked at every stations where enquiry counters are available for this purpose.

Q : What does the Live Train Status headings mean?

A : S.No: Serial No's of Stations where the train stops.
Station Name & Code: Name & Station Code of Stations where the train stops.
Actual Arrival Time: Train Arrival Time when it actually arrived at that station.
Actual Departure Time: Train Departure Time when it actually arrived at that station.
Late / Early: Wthether the train is on time or delayed and by how much time.
Current Position: Arrived / Departed / Estimated as the case maybe.
Scheduled Arrival Time: Time when train was originally scheduled to arrive at that station.
Scheduled Departure Time: Time when train was originally scheduled to depart from that station.
Halt Time: Stoppage time at that station.
Platform Number: The platform number where the train actually or is scheduled to stop
Enroute Day: Number of Day of train travel.
Distance: Distance covered from Origin Station

Q : Why do i get Error. Please try later : Message / Status?

A : If the LIVE train running status for your queried train number is not delivered, the following reasons could be responsible:
1 - You entered an incorrect or invalid train number.
2 - Train does not run on the date it is being queried.
3 - Indian Railways server is down or overloaded.

Q : How to track my Train on Map?

A : One can track the exact position of the train by locating it on the map.
By clicking on the indicated points on the map, one can see the name of the station, the arrival and departure time, the travel day number on which the train is running and distance from the source station.

Q : Can you explain Train Status with an example?

A : If you are travelling from Bhopal to Delhi via train no 12001 - NDLS SHATABDI Express (HBJ - NDLS), just type the train number 12001 or NDLS SHATABDI in box 1. After this, select the date of travel and then click on 'Submit'.
The information that the train is on one of the route stations - HABIBGANJ(HBJ), BHOPAL JN(BPL), JHANSI JN(JHS), GWALIOR(GWL), AGRA CANTT(AGC), MATHURA JN(MTJ) or NEW DELHI(NDLS)will come up.
It will also tell you the Expected Time of Arrival (eg 16:35 at Bhopal) and Expected Time of Departure (eg 16:39 at Bhopal) along with the halt time of 4 Min.
The late status can also be checked -whether a train is on 'On Time' or 'Late' will be indicated against the station.
Ddistance between the stations will also be shown and you can know exactly that JHANSI JN(JHS) is how many km away from Bhopal.
You will also be able to find the platform number on which the train will arrive and thus will not have to rush to coolies or other passengers for help. Eg: Bhopal Station at Platform 2 and New Delhi at Platform 1. Platform numbers will thus be indicated against each station.
Along with this, a route map will also help you trace the trajectory of your travel and you will have a clear idea on what route the train is heading.
This map can also help in finding the places around a particular station and what areas you are crossing.
